Linux rapidshare downloader

29 decembrie, 2008

Slimrat is an easy to use rapidshare downloader which can be used from command line or GUI. It can download files from these services:

rapidshare.com Free
depositfiles.com
youtube.com
leteckaposta.cz
fast-load.net
mediafire.com

It’s not fancy, but it can download the second file right when the first one finishes, so you don’t have to worry about that anymore (which is quite annoying, especially on rapidshare and mediafire).

You can use it on any Linux distro, just install these dependencies:

  • Debian/Ubuntu:

aptitude install libwww-mechanize-perl libgtk2-gladexml-perl

  • Fedora (package names):

o perl-WWW-Mechanize
o perl-Gtk2-GladeXML (GUI)

  • FreeBSD:

portinstall -Pp ftp/wget devel/p5-Getopt-Long devel/p5-Term-ANSIColor x11-toolkits/p5-Gtk2 x11-toolkits/p5-Gtk2-GladeXML x11-toolkits/p5-Gtk2-Ex-Simple-List www/p5-LWP-UserAgent-Determined www/p5-WWW-Mechanize

Download Slimrat from here and extract it.

Then, to run it, simply open “slimrat-gui” for the GUI version or navigate to it’s directory using the terminal and type: “slimrat –help” for the CLI.

More info on the usage you can find of course on Slimrat’s wiki page.

I’m logging in as root since the first time i installed linux on my computer (must be almost 2 years now). My philosophy is: brake it in the beginning so later on, you’ll know how to fix it :D

Does this allow the user to pre-program their rapidshare.com user/pass credentials if I am a paid premium user?

My biggiest issue with not using XP at all anymore (i have Ibex on VirtualBox and use it more and more) is that I have Flashgot in combo with the FF extention FlashGet and have my rapidshare creds set as default so when i highlight a bunch of links, i just right-click, chose to DL with FlashGet and hit “OK” and they’re going strong on their own.

If this does that on Ibex, I’m good, if not, anyone have any ideas?

I think this one is only for free users, search JDownloader for paid accounts.

The main reason I would not use Ubuntu in the past for all my premium rapidshare downloads, was I did not have enough knowledge of the software available. In fact I am still in the dark as to what is out there, so I decided to write a post on my blog UbuntuDan and get educated at the same time. I hope this helps someone.
