Encrypt Dropbox Using EncFS
Dropbox is the most popular cloud sync tool out there. And to be honest, it really deserves this because it is the best: it provides the best features, it works on any platform, etc., but there are a few things it lacks, like not offering encryption on the users’ computers.
A recent Dropbox breakage which allowed everyone to log in to any Dropbox account using the email address only (and any text for the password) shows just how dangerous this is, so it’s probably a good idea to encrypt at least the private files you have in your Dropbox (or the whole Dropbox folder).
One of the best solutions for this is using EncFS:
“EncFS provides an encrypted filesystem in user-space. It runs without any special permissions and uses the FUSE library and Linux kernel module to provide the filesystem interface.”
